Volunteer Programs
Volunteer services are very important to the Agency on Aging. Individuals who are committed and willing to give their time and talents to help other people may find a volunteering opportunity with the York County Area Agency on Aging.

Eligibility for Volunteers
You are eligible to become a York County Area Agency on Aging volunteer if you are:
- 18 years of age or older
- Are willing to explore new areas of interest
- Are sensitive and alert to the needs of others
- Can adjust to new situations
- Have at least one to five hours per week available
- Will attend training sessions to learn more about the particular volunteer opportunity
Friendly Visitor Program
The Friendly Visitor Program sends a trained volunteer to visit consumers age 60 and older who are homebound and in need of a friend. The volunteer usually visits once a week, bringing companionship, information and shared activities.
Friendly Visitors may help by:
- Listening to problems, feelings, and tales of long ago
- Reading aloud
- Writing letters
- Making phone calls
- Sharing a hobby
- Exchanging library books or magazines
- Playing cards or other games, and
- Bringing companionship to an older adult.
Financial Counselor
Volunteers are trained to assist older adults who are Care Managed by the York County Area Agency on Aging. They assist consumers in balancing checkbook, paying bills and other financial record keeping needs.
Telephone Reassurance
Volunteers make a daily brief telephone call to homebound seniors. Daily contact helps seniors who are alone feel safe and secure.
Older Driver Peer Educator
Make presentations to community groups and organizations on older driver safety and awareness.
