The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps low-income families pay their heating bills. LIHEAP is a grant; you don't have to repay it.
To receive help:
- You don't have to be on public assistance
- You don't need to have an unpaid heating bill
- You can either rent or own your home
Income guidelines apply.
How to apply:
- Apply on line at www.compass.state.pa.us
- Request an application by calling the Statewide LIHEAP Hotline at 1-866-857-7095 or TDD for the hearing impaired 1-800-451-5886
- Applications are available at the York County Assistance Office, 130 N. Duke Street, York.
The program has been extended from March 15 to April 2.
Cash grant amounts have also been increased by $100. The money will be sent out by end of February to the same vendor/person that received the cash grant.
A second $100 is being issued for households containing elderly persons (anyone 60+), disabled persons (anyone receiving financial assistance for a disability), or children 5 and under. The money is to be sent out by the end of March to the same vendor/person that received the cash grant.
